Rise & Grind 👑 🙌🏾
I’m excited about the next few weeks, 1 I’m back in my Dharma classes so I’ll be discussing these topics in person with others, so it helps me keep things in perspective as I go down these rabbit holes on my path to finding peace of mind, and my truth. Also I’m being a little selfish, sometimes its challenging to structure the things I’m learning on my journey to share with others. But its always easy with the classes, I’m very grateful for these classes because the colder seasons in the past, have been a little more challenging for me. I’m being mindful of my words and how I speak over myself because thats not the future I intend on creating for myself. I consistently remind myself, we are the creators. If I don’t want the cold seasons to be an issue, it won’t. But it starts with my speech as well as actions taken.
Side Note: We should all be mindful of specific seasons and how it impacts us mentally, physically, and emotionally. I’m not the only one who has found colder seasons more challenging than the others. Mental health issues can increase during the fall and winter months. A key reason for this is Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), a type of depression that typically occurs during the fall and winter due to reduced sunlight. Lack of sunlight affects serotonin levels, which play a role in mood regulation, and also disrupts the body’s internal clock (circadian rhythms), leading to symptoms of depression, lethargy, and mood swings.
Some additional factors to be mindful of:
– Reduced Sunlight: Shorter days lead to less exposure to natural light, affecting mood and energy.
– Colder Weather: People tend to stay indoors more often, leading to isolation or reduced physical activity.
– Holiday Stress: The holiday season can trigger emotional stress, especially in people dealing with loss, financial concerns, or loneliness.
– End-of-Year Pressure: The end of the year often brings added work pressure or reflections on unmet personal goals, which can amplify feelings of anxiety or inadequacy.
Mindfulness practices, light therapy, maintaining a routine, and seeking social connections can help mitigate some of these effects. This is why the weekly Dharma class I go to is important for me.
Back to our weekly Intro… 🙂
So the Dharma class for this session is “Ancient Wisdom Teachings Compared”. In class we are comparing “The 4 Noble Truths” in Buddhism, to Ancient Toltec Wisdom’s “The Fourth Agreements”. On a personal note, The 4th Agreements has been gifted and recommended to me throughout the years. I’ve owned it for at least 2 yrs, and I just could never read it beyond the 1st agreement. I’ve seen YouTube videos, and read summaries, I know this book is meant for me, it’s just the time has never been right.
I dont think I would have gotten the wisdom I need from it then if I pushed thru and just read without retaining or understanding. I just think now is the time, and this is the space. The book came up in class earlier this year, so I gifted it to my Dharma teacher over summer break, she read it and now we are going thru it in class. We’ve reviewed the 4 Noble Truths in this space before, I think earlier last year. So I’m excited to learn about the connection between the Truth’s in Buddhism and the Toltec’s Agreements . This is 2 ancient wisdoms that I’m positive will vibe together.
The next few week’s we will be exploring The Four Agreements connections. With not only Buddhism’s 4 Noble Truths, but we also need to look at the connections with the themes we’ve discussed in previous weeks—Taoism, Hermetic Principles, the power of the heart, and unlocking our brain’s potential. We have to find that thread and pull.
It will be cool if anyone want’s to pick up “The Fourth Noble Truths” by Don Miguel Ruiz. Also here is a quick video on the book itself, so you can see what the next few weeks will be about.
