I don’t feel controlling thoughts is possible , however we can train so that our thoughts no longer control our energy. What I’ve learned is thoughts of the past where nothing can be done to change the outcome fosters the energy of depression, and thoughts of the future where nothing can be done to predict/control the outcome fosters the energy of anxiety.

I’ve lived in both energies and not only is it heavy and dark, but it’s stifling. I marvel at others who practicing mindfulness comes naturally. They are the ones who have already incorporated some form of non traditional meditation without even knowing it’s a thing. Others like me have to work twice as hard, I set my intentions to practice at least one form of mindfulness daily so that it becomes a habit and not work.

But know, no matter how we get there, or the amount of work it took to get there, mindfulness behavior make managing & overcoming depression and anxiety A LOT easier for all who practice.

So let’s set our intentions to practice at least one thing we’ve learned this week into a daily and/or weekly routine. Incorporating mindfulness into a routine can be beneficial for managing depression and anxiety. So what are some of the benefits from incorporating some of the stuff we learned?

1. Reduced Rumination: Mindfulness helps break the cycle of negative thinking that often accompanies depression and anxiety. By focusing on the present moment, individuals are less likely to dwell on past regrets or future worries.

2. Improved Emotional Regulation: Mindfulness practices teach individuals to observe their thoughts and feelings without judgment. This can help them respond to negative emotions more calmly and effectively, rather than reacting impulsively or getting overwhelmed.

3. Increased Self-Awareness: Mindfulness promotes greater awareness of one’s own thoughts and feelings. This self-awareness can help individuals recognize the early signs of depression or anxiety and take proactive steps to manage their mental health.

4. Enhanced Stress Management: By fostering a state of calm and relaxation, mindfulness can reduce the physiological symptoms of stress that often accompany anxiety and depression, such as rapid heartbeat and shallow breathing.

5. Better Focus and Concentration: Mindfulness practices can improve concentration and attention, which can be beneficial for those whose depression or anxiety makes it difficult to focus on tasks.

6. Improved Sleep: Mindfulness can help individuals establish a more restful sleep pattern by reducing the anxiety and restless thoughts that can interfere with sleep.

7. Greater Enjoyment of Life: By encouraging individuals to savor the present moment, mindfulness can help them find joy and satisfaction in their daily lives, which can counteract feelings of hopelessness and sadness associated with depression.

8. Building Resilience: Mindfulness fosters a sense of acceptance and resilience, helping individuals cope better with life’s challenges and reducing the impact of stress and negative experiences.

Practicing mindfulness daily can create a more balanced and centered approach to life, making it easier to manage and alleviate the symptoms of depression and anxiety.

May we all obtain the tools we need to have a more mindfulness life. Bringing our attention to the present, away from the past and future thoughts that may put us in a negative mindset. 🙏🏾
