Like most things there is a good and a bad, the same applies to doubt. Zen theology tells us how doubt is good. With Zen doubt can be healthy, it’s as simple as stop doubting and you’ll feel as tho you know all there is to know. So there’s no more growth for you. And that’s one of the greatest lies every told. We know on this path theres always something to learn. Always questioning what we see and here actually pushes us forward.
What holds us back is when doubt pulls us towards fear, anxiety, depression, etc. Negative doubt can start small like…
I can’t do this. It’s to much, so I don’t want to go to school/work. I won’t have anything good to say, so I don’t want to see my family. Im not up for doing anything “fun”, so I don’t want to see my friends. Then you don’t dressed since you don’t leave the house. Lose your appetite and don’t eat (or eat your emotions, and eat excessively). You don’t go to work or see anyone so why get out of bed. If there’s the ability to get out of bet, but there’s no getting out of bed…the thought…why even wake up?
Yes, that situation escalated very quickly. But somewhere out there this story belongs to someone, and it started with a seed of self-doubt. Knowing our worth is how we prevent that 1st seed of self-doubt from being planted. It may be challenging, but you can do it.
