“When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better too”

In The Alchemist, the alchemist tells a story of a man with two sons. One is a famous poet and the other a warrior. The man is basically told that his son speaks words that is remembered by mankind. This makes him very proud and content with his life, to know that his son has had a powerful impact on the world. When his time comes, he asks the angel can he see his sons work. He wants to see the words that have made this impact on history. For him it had to be his son the poet who wrote words so powerful, because of how famous he knew his poems to be in Rome. The angel informed him it was actually his son the warrior, the poet had powerful poems, however over time they were forgotten like a lot of literature.

But his son the warrior was a great leader. Someone under him fell ill, and he traveled far lands to find a healer (“man of God”), when he found him, the healer says “Shall I come and heal him?” Ready to follow the warrior to who is ill, but the warrior became so humble in his presence, that he said “I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed” These words withstood the rest of time, and were spoken by many after the warrior had long gone. It was words of faith that inspired others faith and trust in a higher power.

After telling the story the alchemist says “No matter what he has done every person on this earth plays a central role in the history of the world and normally he doesn’t know it”

This is powerful because it’s a reminder that each of us has the light within us to be impactful in a powerful way. Sometimes without us knowing it. But when we stay true to ourselves, and speak our truth we play our central role.

As the story is being told you assume it is the son who creates beautiful poetry, that has words that will impact the world. However, it was the son who just wanted to heal someone within his care. It was the warrior who made sacrifices for the greater good of someone else, and showed humility that spoke words that changed history.

Know that you don’t have to be a philanthropist, have millions of dollars, or a huge platform that reaches thousands to be a positive impact on this world.

It’s the little things we do, something as simple as paying it forward, that make a huge impact on someone’s journey. We have to start being the light we want to see in this world.
