The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho is one of my favorite books. The reason its one of my favorites is the message in The Alchemist is that everyone has a personal dream or legend that they are meant to fulfill, and the universe is here to helps us achieve that dream.

As we start this new year I wanted to share this book that explores destiny, personal growth, and the importance of following one’s intuition and heart. It showed how symbols (Omens, Synchronicities) represented interconnectedness, self-development, humility, and the value of life.

During this time of year it’s a tradition a people make resolutions to change an undesired trait, accomplish a personal goal, or otherwise improve their behaviour at the beginning of a calendar year. Some are successful, and some get discouraged when things don’t move at the pace in which they feel should.

For me resolutions puts a lot pressure on people to do things within a specific timeframe. I’ve learned to be more patient with myself and the process, so I set my intentions instead. And my intentions is to always be better tomorrow than I am today, and that’s every day of the year not just the 1st. So one day at a time.

I want each of us to know the universe wants us to be successful in achieving our purpose (personal legend) that doesn’t mean the paths we take will all be smooth and free of obstacles. But it means we aren’t making the journey alone. There are signs along our journey that help guide us, it’s just harder for some to see.

The book explores signs the main character encounters on his journey that helps him achieve his personal legend ( life purpose). Synchronicity is a term that describes the occurrence of coincidences that seem meaningful but have no cause. The term was coined by Swiss psychologist Carl Jung. Some say that synchronicity is a magical thing that makes us take notice. For example, thinking of a friend right before they text us.

Other Examples of Synchronicity

– Similar thoughts in people who are far apart
– A mental image of an unexpected event before it happens
– Interpreting two separate experiences as being meaningfully intertwined (Seeing the numbers 111 multiple times and researching the meaning of those numbers and finding a message that resonates with you)
– A string of events that seem to be highly symbolic and meaningful in nature

Alchemists have been active since ancient times and could be considered early chemists. However, today alchemy is recognized as a pseudoscience (Example, Astrology is pseudoscience) . An alchemist is a person who transforms or creates something through a seemingly magical process. Some consider the law of attraction to be a magical process (or pseudoscience). They cant fathom that thoughts can create realities.

I want each of us to understand we are each our own alchemist, that magical light is within each of us. It’s just putting in the work to strengthen that light/connection so we continue to persevere in order to achieve or dream.
