I know for me the most common reason I have for Procrastinating is I can do it later. The truth is this creates a false sense of reality. I tell myself that the future will create a perfect opportunity for me to accomplish the task I’m putting off. But I honestly have no way of knowing what the future holds.

The present is giving me the opportunity to get done what I need to, but I’m avoiding it by pushing it to a “better” time. When the truth is there is no better time than now. I’ve just made it “future self’s” problem. What if future self is tired and not in the right state of mind to complete the pushed off task, and now I’m responsible for putting unnecessary stress on myself.

Solution to “I’ll Do It Later” energy?

We should never underestimate the influences life has on us. Human understanding greatly depends on one’s state of mind. If someone is angry, its challenging for them to picture themselves calm. Just like if I’m hungry, I can’t just think of myself as being full. Our surroundings can easily influence our mood & ability to understand the tasks at hand.

With this understanding I need to be more mindful of the current state of mind I’m in when avoiding unwanted responsibilities. If my surroundings and state of mind are good, then that’s most likely the time in which I was meant to complete my unwanted task. If anything I owe it to future self to at least try to get the task off our plate.
