OMI raises funds from Nexus Ventures Partners

OMI, an online spiritual and wellness platform started by former Gaana chief executive Prashan Agarwal with ex-Nexus Venture Partners executive Aniket Lila, has raised funding from early-stage venture capital firm Nexus Ventures Partners.

The startup plans to use the funds raised to hire talent across product, technology, and operations, Agarwal said in a statement.

“Our aim is to improve the wellbeing of 10 million people in 5 years and create the largest spiritual wellness community in the world,” Lila said.

Users will be able to consult with its ‘Astro Guides’ and get a personalised remedy plan that includes activities like meditation, chanting mantras, affirmations, and journaling. The company says it uses ancient Indian practices with modern scientific techniques to solve various problems spanning across career, education, marriage, love, health and money among others.

While the app is currently available as a free download on Google Play Store, users will have to pay for consultations. At launch, it offers packages starting at Rs 299 for a 15-minute session and going up to Rs 1,299 for a 60-minute session.

“Today the world is faced with a multitude of changes in our life in terms of the way we live, we connect, we embrace, unprecedented things we go through and this has had an impact on the spiritual, devotional, and mental wellbeing of all of us,” Agarwal said.

The company claims to currently have more than 20 guides on board. “As OMI scales, you will see us expanding and adding many more services on the platform aimed at helping you improve your spiritual wellness,” Lila said.

“We’re excited to partner with Prashan and Aniket. This is a very deeply India specific problem, with very large existing profit pools. No one has addressed the market in a millenial centric way, and made a product-first, scalable and trustworthy solution,” said Pratik Poddar, principal at Nexus Venture Partners.
