Rise & Grind 👑 🙌🏾
The 4th agreement, Always Do Your Best, is like the thread that ties together everything we’ve learned so far. It’s a practice that brings all of the agreements into daily action. Here’s how it aligns with what we’ve already covered:
1. Domestication & The Dream of the Planet
The first chapters showed us that we’re born into a world where beliefs, judgments, and expectations shape us. The result? We often feel pressured to meet external standards, even if they don’t match who we are. *Always Doing Our Best* is about redefining “best” in our own terms. Instead of acting out of fear or obligation, this agreement invites us to act from a place of integrity, not from the conditioning of society’s expectations.
2. The Smokey Mirror
The Smokey Mirror story taught us that our true essence can be clouded by illusions—our self-doubt, assumptions, and societal pressures. The fourth agreement serves as a compass that guides us back to our authentic selves. When we focus on simply doing our best, we clear away some of that “smoke,” allowing our inner light and truth to shine. It’s a daily choice to rise above illusions and act in alignment with who we truly are.
3. The 1st Agreement – Be Impeccable with Your Word
Being impeccable with our word means using language to create positivity and truth, both internally and externally. The fourth agreement reminds us that being impeccable with our word isn’t about perfection; it’s about showing up consistently and giving our best effort to speak kindly, honestly, and with intention. When we do our best to speak with integrity, we create a ripple effect that uplifts our mindset and strengthens our relationships.
4. The Second Agreement – Don’t Take Anything Personally
Not taking things personally frees us from the rollercoaster of reacting to others’ opinions or actions. This is where *Always Doing Our Best* becomes an anchor. If we know we’ve done our best in a situation, then we don’t have to take others’ reactions as reflections of our worth. Instead, we can rest assured that we’re living up to our own standards. Doing our best becomes our measure, replacing the need for external validation.
5. The Third Agreement – Don’t Make Assumptions
The third agreement helps us break free from the habit of making assumptions and instead encourages us to seek clarity. When we apply the fourth agreement to this, we realize that doing our best means asking questions and embracing curiosity without fearing judgment. Rather than assuming we have all the answers or that others know our intentions, we do our best to communicate clearly and listen openly.
Together, these agreements work in harmony, each one supporting the others. When we strive to Always Do Our Best, we’re actively practicing all the other agreements in one way or another. It’s about building a foundation of honesty, resilience, and inner strength. By doing our best to apply these agreements daily, we find more clarity, compassion, and empowerment to live a life true to ourselves, unburdened by the old habits of judgment, assumption, and fear.
