Rise & Grind 👑🙌🏾

The 5th Paramitas (Perfection) is Meditation (Dhyana). Think of Meditation as a gateway to wisdom and self discovery. Meditating helps us find “Samadhi” which is the silence in meditation. It’s between the noises of the past and future. The silence is where we discover One-ness with ourselves and the universe around us. It’s how we connect.

During class yesterday we discussed the many challenges that can come from attempting meditation. How our mind wonders and that little voice distracts us while we are trying to find Samadhi. It’s like when we try to meditate that’s when that inner voice becomes the loudest.

That inner voice seems to always question our ability to meditate. Random thoughts located in certain regions of our brain, entering your thoughts wondering whether or not this really works, critiquing whether or not we’re doing it right, then reminding us of all the things that we didn’t do yesterday that we need to do today. Sometimes that inner voice can be relentless when we’re just trying to practice moment of stillness.

What I learned is we must first separate that voice from self. Do not identify yourself as one with this voice. You are not that voice, which is why you can hear it and reflect on the words it’s creating within your mind. The purpose of this voice is protection. Others have described it as the ego, either way it knows how to get us in fight or flight mode at any time.

One way to view how it protects us from harm (aka embarrassing moments). Is to think of how it reflects on an embarrassing moment over and over again. Reminding us of ways in which we could have done something differently. Making us feel bad for how we handle a situation, and how we should have did better. So we sit in that energy, even though the moment has past and we should be releasing it since it no longer serves a purpose. We know better, We know holding on to that moment will create fear that will keep us from ever attempting it again.

That voice wants stability and consistency. That’s where it can protect you the most, because it feels there will be no change, so it will always know what to expect next. But what is life without change? Is a stagnant life really what you desire?

In class we talked about viewing the inner voice as an annoying roommate. Always there, making a mess, being loud when you want silence, but pays their rent on time so they help in keeping a roof over your head. So you get use to them being there. For me, it’s like an overbearing family member. They mean good, they just want the best for me. So they are constantly giving advice, but I have to know which advice to take and which to leave.

How do we calm that Voice During Meditation?

Stop fighting it. We understand it’s just doing this job. So like that family will just means well. We listen to it, We let it get it off it’s chest, and keep it moving. The act of letting that voice come and go without judgement or giving into it is mindfulness meditation.

This week we will continue to explore the benefits of mediation, and the different types. And what you can take to make mediation your own thing.

As We Go Thru The Week Let’s Start Working On Developing Meditation Plan

– Create your space
– Commit to one solid time a day
– How long will you meditate? (5mins is a day is better than 0)
– What will you focus on when you meditate (breathe, movement, stillness, etc)
– what other things I need to do to maintain my mediation practice. (How to stay diligent?)

Remember be patient with yourself and the process. You got this 🦾 💚🙏🏾
