Meditation is like having a mental break to hang out with your soul. Researches shows that meditation produces long-lasting changes in the brain activity in areas involved in attention, working memory, learning, and conscious perception. It takes 2 Paramitas, Patience & Dillegence. With these 2 perfections you can find your peace (“Samadhi”).
The cool thing is I don’t think there is necessarily a direct right or wrong way to do it. There are so many different forms & even with many types, the foundation of each one stays the same- focussing on one thing, rather it’s your breath, points of your body, or a specific movement. Its calming the mind and body and going into a deep sense of relaxation. Through entering this state of relaxation we can achieve many beautiful things inside and outside us.
Some people may be like me and require guided meditation. I need something other than focusing on my breathe to pull me from my thoughts. So hearing a voice remind me to focus on something assists me in letting that inner voice go on it’s way. As I discuss last week, for my son we do sleeping meditations. As he is preparing for bed, he puts on a guided meditation video and let’s it carry him to sleep.
With all the different forms of meditation, it comes down to what works best for you to get to that relaxation. Some need to move and use yoga or walking meditation where you focus on every movement of the body down to the connection of each step with the earth beneath.
It doesn’t matter which form you need, because all that you need is already within you 🙏🏾
