Yesterday, VeVe announced that they have shut down their NFT marketplace due to an ongoing exploit. This exploit allowed some malicious parties to obtain Gems illegitimately. Since then, VeVe has restricted several accounts to aid with their investigation. Currently, the marketplace is still closed but VeVe promises that they are near to a reopening. The current plan is to reopen the site later today.
VeVe Exploit
VeVe is currently updating its site to fix this issue. The community can expect an explanation from the company regarding this whole fiasco. And until that happens, the rumors will continue to spread like wildfire. According to a Twitter user, this exploit involves an expired credit card, where the user’s transaction seemingly got approved. Another Twitter user indicated that the ‘stolen’ gems were quickly sold and that the money is now out of VeVe.
News around NFT Twitter is that this is a multimillion-dollar exploit, and VeVe is at fault. As long as the company does not issue an official statement, the speculation will see no end.
VeVe NFT
VeVe is an NFT marketplace focusing on digital collectibles. The platform is currently in partnership with some of the biggest brands in the space. This includes Marvel and Disney. Their latest drop features Gamora in Marvel’s Strange Tales #180. The limited-edition collection will drop really soon at 8:00am PDT on 25 March 2022.
There is no announcement regarding any changes for the drop, so I guess VeVe expects the marketplace to be up and running before the drop takes place.
