HONG Kong actor Edison Chen (pic) had earned at least US$5mil (RM20.9mil) from the sale of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) despite criticism of his digital artwork, reported Sin Chew Daily.
Chen, 42, managed to sell all 8,888 of his NFTs in just a few days after they were launched on Feb 15.
One of the more notable digital artworks put up for sale was an image of a man with green skin and six eyes, spotting a mohawk. It led to ridicule from the Internet community.
“These (NFTs) are so bad. They really do not appeal to my taste,” one Internet user said.
However, some fans who bought the digital artwork for US$576 (RM2,411) each managed to flip them for as high as 10 times their initial listing price.
Chen, who now lives in Los Angeles with his wife and child, was once described by the press as “the worst man in Hong Kong” after photos of him having sex with female Hong Kong stars were leaked to the public.
Among those seen in the photos, which were been stolen from his laptop computer, included celebrities such as Gillian Chung and Cecilia Cheung.
It was earlier reported that King of Mandopop Jay Chou was US$10mil (RM42mil) richer last month after he sold NFTs via his fashion label PHANTACi.
