Phillips to Offer Three NFTs Created by Artist ThankYouX in Collaboration with Composer Hans Zimmer NFTs July 16, 2021 Share FacebookTwitterPinterestWhatsApp Still image of “Sound of Color” Courtesy of Phillips Text size A series of nonfungible tokens (NFTs) created by contemporary artist ThankYouX in collaboration with award-winning film score composer Hans Zimmer will be offered at Phillips from July 20-23. Each of the three unique NFTs in the series, titled Sound of Color, features an abstract cube imagery by ThankYouX, set against a unique musical score composed specifically for the project by Zimmer. Zimmer was also involved in both the visual animations and the painting that accompanies one of the NFTs, and even incorporated sounds created by ThankYouX as the artist was painting. “This was an emotional and fun experience for me. I have wanted to do something abstract like this for a long time,” the 63-year-old Zimmer, said in a statement. “We tried to create a new experience, something you can’t get out of words, a movie, or painting by itself. Ultimately, I wanted to make people feel something in a way I haven’t had the opportunity to do before.” The German-born Zimmer has composed music scores for more than 150 films, including The Lion King, for which he won the Academy Award for best original score in 1995. His other credits include Gladiator, The Dark Knight trilogy, Thelma and Louise, and, most recently, Wonder Woman 1984, the James Bond film No Time to Die, and Ron Howard’s Hillbilly Elegy. ThankYouX, whose real name is Ryan Wilson, is a Los Angeles-based artist who first became recognized for his street graffiti of Andy Warhol’s paintings. He originally signed his works Thank You X (X meant anonymous) and later adopted ThankYouX as his pseudonym. His Selfie Portraits, brightly colored paintings of celebrities such as Warhol, Nelson Mandela, and Tina Fey, shown through a cell phone screen, are displayed at the Snapchat’s headquarters in Venice, Calif. “In Sound of Color, the whole really is greater than the sum of the parts, and that’s what makes it such an exciting collaboration,” ThankYouX said in a statement. Each of the three NFTs has a starting bid of US$100. In June, Phillips offered some unique NFTs at its 20th-century and contemporary art sale in New York with a low bid of US$100, and sold them in a range of US$15,000 to US$201,000, the auction house said. The NFTs will be on view at Phillips New York gallery at 432 Park Ave. from July 16-23, and ThankYouX will make an appearance on July 20.
